The Awakening of KP Man...

Long before Kalita Point was founded in 1981, before the roads were laid out and before the first docks reached into the waters of Lake Livingston, KP Man slept beneath the sandy soils of East Texas. Some say he was once part of an ancient stone formation overlooking a forgotten river. Others believe he was carved by nature itself and left to watch over the land for centuries. KP Man neither confirms nor denies these stories. In 1966, during construction of Lake Livingston, heavy equipment nearly uncovered him. The earth shook, trees fell, and water slowly claimed the old river bottoms. Yet KP Man remained hidden, resting peacefully beneath the Point. For years he listened. He listened to the wind through the pines. He listened to owls in the darkness. He listened to fishermen tell stories that somehow grew larger with each retelling. Then, sometime after Kalita Point was established in 1981, a bulkhead project disturbed the ground above his resting place. Late one quiet evening, under a sky full of Texas stars, KP Man opened one stone eye. He listened. Neighbors were laughing around a fire pit. A pontoon boat drifted across the cove. Someone was playing music in the distance. Someone else was talking about the one fish that got away. KP Man smiled. "This seems like my kind of place," he thought. Since that night, KP Man has quietly watched over Kalita Point. He has witnessed sunsets beyond counting, boat parades, fireworks, cookouts, friendships, celebrations, and enough fish stories to fill the lake itself. Today, KP Man serves as the Stone Guardian of Kalita Point, keeper of community lore, collector of wisdom, and unofficial observer of all things lake life. He still spends most of his time watching the sunset. And if you're very lucky, on a calm evening when the water is smooth as glass and laughter drifts across the cove, you may hear him whisper: "Life is better when viewed from a dock." And if you're coming... Bring the beer.
